What is the In-Person Attendance Tool?
The attendance tool in myFranklin is used only for select face-to-face courses. The tool requires the student to select their in-person attendance within the myFranklin, and then the instructor can verify the student’s claim of in-person attendance. The tool requires the use of the student’s location settings on their laptop or phone when the student selects their attendance.
Student Experience - How to Mark Attendance
Important: For the student this process to work, the student must follow the steps below, be present in the class (verified by their device's location settings), and mark themselves present in the correct time window (10 minutes before the start of class until 30 minutes after it started).
- Turn on your device's location services. This process will not work without location enabled on your device.
- Log into myFranklin and click on the notification icon, located at the bottom for the mobile device and the upper left corner for the desktop.

Mobile Screenshot - The Class Attendance notification is a specific type of notification message allowing form submission. Only students currently enrolled in face-to-face classes will receive the message.
- Select Class Attendance to continue.
- The attendance tool will try to find out which course section you are in based on your schedule. If not found, it will pull the first item from your enrolled courses. Click Yes to accept the populated course section information.
- If the Other Courses button is selected (see screenshot above), a drop-down menu will appear with other enrolled courses to choose from.
- If this is your first time visiting the site, you will be prompted to allow To Use Your Current Location. Please select OK to complete the submission.
- A confirmation will display upon successful submission (as shown below).
NOTE: If you do not see the confirmation (example above), attendance submission didn’t work! This likely means your location settings prevented the submission from working. Adjust your location settings on the device you are using, allow pop-ups, and try again.
The Instructor Experience
Student attendance using the tool covered in this article will feed into Self-Service and be marked with "Present" status. This status can be verified by the instructor in Self-Service. An email will be sent to instructor with reasoning why some students who marked themselves present were not marked “Present” in Self-Service (examples: marked present but not in time, location is not local within in 1 mile). The "Present" status in Self-Service can be overwritten or left as is by the instructor.
After the attendance submissions from students (using the tool above) are fed into Self-Service, follow the remainder of the standard attendance procedure for Instructors: Click Here
