What's Changing?
Beginning Fall 2026 term, you will no longer be able to submit assignments in Canvas by browsing directly to files stored in OneDrive from within Canvas.
This change was made by Microsoft to streamline their integrations.
Will I Still Be Able to Use OneDrive?
Yes. OneDrive remains available to Franklin University students as a secure cloud storage solution for coursework and personal academic files. Students continue to receive 1 TB of OneDrive storage while actively enrolled at the University.
The only change is how files are uploaded to Canvas assignments.
How Do I Submit Assignments Going Forward?
Option 1: Download Your File Before Submitting
This is the easiest option for most students.
- Open your file in OneDrive.
- Download the file to your computer.
- In Canvas, choose Submit Assignment.
- Select Upload File.
- Browse to the downloaded file and submit it.
This process only takes a few extra seconds and works from any computer.
Option 2: Sync OneDrive to Your Computer
If you regularly save assignments in OneDrive, you can sync OneDrive to your computer. This allows your OneDrive files to appear just like any other folder on your device.
- Instructions here: OneDrive Online Storage Guide
Once OneDrive is synced:
- Save your paper in your OneDrive folder.
- Open the assignment in Canvas.
- Click Upload File.
- Browse to your OneDrive folder and select the file.
Because the files are available directly through Windows or macOS, uploading to Canvas is quick and convenient.
Syncing OneDrive provides several benefits:
| Benefit | Description |
|---|---|
| Automatic Backup | Your files are stored in OneDrive and synchronized automatically. |
| Easy Access | Files appear in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). |
| Work Anywhere | Access the same files across multiple devices. |
| Simple Canvas Uploads | Upload directly from your synced OneDrive folder. |
