Overview of your Equipment
As a part of our commitment to providing efficient and reliable technology solutions, all Full-Time Faculty and Staff members are issued IT-managed equipment. This guide has been developed to help you become familiar with your assigned devices and make the most out of the technology provided.
Alongside this managed laptop, Franklin University IT will provide Full-Time Faculty and Staff with a Docking station, monitor, and peripherals (mouse and keyboard).
The docking station will allow you to connect your mouse and keyboard, headset, and monitors to your computer through an all-in-one cable for seamless transition.
Logging Into Your Device
To log into your device, you will be provided with credentials from your direct supervisor. Please use these credentials to log into your device and change your password at our password change website. You must sign into your laptop ON CAMPUS before taking the device home, otherwise your device may not work properly. Here is a helpful guide on using our password reset tool to change your password.
The credentials set up are the same to log into your university-provided Outlook Email.
Your device will come with all of the needed software to get started. Should you find that you are missing any programs or software that you may need, please contact the Help Desk via email – helpdesk@franklin.edu.
Setting Up Your Device at Home
When you are issued your equipment, it may be necessary to plug in your equipment. First-time setup of this equipment may create some questions.
Let’s start with the monitors. We have found it easiest to rotate the monitor to a vertical position to access the ports easily.
Next, Plug in the power cable (labeled with a red rectangle in the photo) to the furthest right port (PHOTO BELOW) and insert the other end into the wall socket:
Now we will plug the Display Port Cable into the first port in the grey section (labeled with a red rectangle in the photo):
Please repeat these steps for the amount of monitors you have been provided with.
We will move on to setting up the docking station:
Once your docking station is unboxed, please turn it upside down and plug in the power cable into the bottom of the dock, facing right as shown in this picture. It will fit into the shape cut out for the cable. Picture:
After this step is completed, please plug the other end of the docking station power supply into the wall using the other end.
Perfect! We now have power to the docking station and monitors. Let’s connect the two using the Display Port Cable you have already plugged into the monitor.
Flip your docking station right side up and locate the ports on the back. Plug the Display Port Cable into the bottom-center slot as pictured:
Please repeat these steps for any other monitor provided by the University.
Now is the perfect time to set up your university-provided peripherals (mouse and keyboard). Please unbox these items and plug the cables into the USB ports on the back of the dock.
Next, all that is left to do is to plug the USB-C cable coming from the front of the dock directly into either of the USB-C ports on your laptop. Pictured below:

Q: My camera does not appear to be working. My settings seem to be correct in Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other applications, but my camera remains to display a black screen.
