General Comments
Instructors can leave simple comments on student submissions that can easily be seen from either within the assignment itself or from within the Grade Book (see Locating Grades and Comments for more information).
Uploading/Sharing a General File
Instructors can share general (non-feedback) files with students that contain any information, such as instructions or edits to the assignment. You can find files that have been shared with you by following these steps:
- Navigate to the assignment.
- From there, you will see the blue paper icon that indicates the number of files uploaded. Click this icon to open the drop-down menu of files:
- You will then see the section titled Instructor Uploads. This is where you can find your instructor's file.
- To download the file, hover over the document's name and click the cloud icon:
- From your computer's file system, you can now find the document and open up the file on your computer.
Audio/Video Feedback
Instructors can record either audio or video feedback to share with students. If your instructor shares this type of feedback with you, you can open the file from within the assignment by clicking the text "listen to audio" or "watch video":
For more detailed information, see Audio and Video Feedback.
Feedback Directly on Submission File
Instructors can edit student's submission files and provide feedback directly within the document. They can then share the document back to the student to view.
- Franklin University Students Only: The new landing page for Franklin students will notify you of a shared document by displaying the following icon:
- For non-Franklin students, you will see the purple share icon like this:
To open up the shared document:
- Open up the object that has a file shared to you in it.
- From the assignment's page, click on the paper icon to open up the file drop-down menu.
- You will then see your file submission with the purple share icon next to it. This means that your file was shared back to you.
- To view the changes that your instructor made to your file, click the paper icon to open up the file in BlueQuill:
- When opening your file in BlueQuill, you can use the three white bars icon to resize the file screen and view any overlay notes your instructor left by toggling the Overlay button.
- When opening your file in BlueQuill, you can use the three white bars icon to resize the file screen and view any overlay notes your instructor left by toggling the Overlay button.
- If you ever want to have your instructor provide more feedback on your document, make sure you share the file back to them again by clicking on the share icon that appears when you hover over your document.
Feedback as a Download
- Navigate to the assignment that has been graded.
- Note that there are no icons to notify students of feedback being uploaded because feedback should be present at the time of grading.
- Inside of the assignment, click on the blue text that says "Feedback", like so:
- This will automatically download a ZIP file of your feedback to your computer, which you can then open in your computers Downloads folder.
Rubric Feedback
Some assignments will have a rubric embedded within them for grading. Here, instructors can leave feedback for each criterion of the rubric. Once a rubric assignment is graded, you can open up the assignment where you will see this icon on the far right-hand side of the screen:
This little grid icon is where rubrics live. Click this icon to make the rubric menu slide out from the right side of the screen. From there, you will see something like this:
From here, you can view what score you got within each criterion and any feedback your instructor left for you. The tile that you scored within will also be highlighted light blue so you can easily see how you were graded.
Nicely done...thanks!
How does a student view the feedback that is entered directly into the Grading Grid?
Jane, point number one also applies in this situation. When you upload a file as feedback into the gradegrid, students see the "feedback" icon. If you leave a comment, the student sees that both inside the assignment and in their student grade book.
Is there a way for a student to download the rubric for an assignment? I know it can be viewed by clicking the grid but that is only available if you are in BlueQuill. Often you are not logged into Franklin when working on an assignment and it would be helpful to be able to download the rubric for reference. Thank you.
Hi there Gail,
This is a great suggestion! We do not currently offer the option to download rubrics, however, I love this idea and I will happily relay this to my team for feedback. As for the time being, my suggestion would be to save a screenshot of the rubric for reference. I know this isn't the most elegant solution, but unfortunately we don't have many other options at this time.
