Rubric Graded Assignments Overview
Some assignments within BlueQuill utilize the rubric feature for grading. These rubrics can be viewed before submitting an assignment to better understand the grading criteria, as well as after grading to view instructor feedback. Let's see how this all works.
Reviewing Rubrics Before Submission
Before submitting an assignment that uses a rubric, students should review the rubric criteria to gain a better understanding of what will be expected. To view a rubric:
- Navigate to the course's assignment page that uses a rubric.
- From the assignment page, open the rubric by clicking on the rubric icon:
- The rubric will slide open, where you can then scroll through the rubric to view all of the grading criteria.
- NOTE: You may need to scroll down to see the entire rubric and the entire description within a criteria section. Hover over a description to see if the scroll bar appears:

- Each of the 3 sections above are called "Criteria". These criteria can have anywhere from 1 to 4 sub-sections within them that determine your grade for that criteria. You can see the number of points each sub-section is worth below the criteria descriptions.
- Click the white "X" at the top, right-hand corner of the rubric to close it.
Viewing Rubrics After Grading
Once your assignment has been graded, you will see the standard grade notification over the assignment from the course home page. To view the rubric:
- Navigate to the graded assignment.
- Click on the rubric tab to open up the rubric:
- From the rubric, you can then see what Criteria Score you earned and Criteria Feedback that explains why your instructor felt you deserved that score. The Criteria box that you earned your score in will also be highlighted in bright blue.
