Activating Your Class's Turnitin Account
In order for an assignment to use Turnitin.com, the Course Designer must have turned this tool on first in design mode before publishing the course. If the Course Designer has done this, then the instructor must access the Turnitin account before students can submit assignments through Turnitin. To activate the course's Turnitin account:
- Navigate to the object that requires Turnitin activation.
- Click on the Turnitin button shown below.
- If the button has black text, you have never clicked on it before, which means the assignment has not yet been set up in Turnitin. This stops students from submitting to the Turnitin assignment. However, when the text is blue, students can now submit to Turnitin.

- Your classes Turnitin account is now activated, so they can submit assignments for you to view.
- Use the Turnitin button to open the assignment in Turnitin.
- From here, you can see submissions from your students. While there is a button to Grade the submission, this Grade does not carry over to BlueQuill. BlueQuill grading by you and BlueQuill submissions by the student are still entirely separate from this Turnitin integration and will need to be carried out directly in BlueQuill by the instructor.
IMPORTANT:
The object start/end dates do NOT carry over to Turnitin. instructors need to set the due dates properly within Turnitin, otherwise, the due date will be today's current date and the due date will be 7 days out.
Turning on Turnitin as an Instructor
If you would like to use Turnitin in your course but it was not built into the design of your course, then you can activate Turnitin through a course communication object. To do this:
- From within your course, create a new course communication object.
- Within that object, click on the "Turnitin" button to activate Turnitin.
- Now, you can save either preview the object, save it as a draft, or publish it to the students. You will still need to follow the instructions above to set up the account for your course.
